In This Version?
Check the list of features and improvements (changes) incorporated in the WinID
since its earliest release.
Version 3.0:
- First, let me mention that version 3.0 is a major release
since version 2.2.2. We redesigned the whole application to make it Windows
NT compatible. Almost everything, including visual interface and navigation
is new, although we tried to keep the basic features of version
2.2.2 intact.
- Redesigned internal engine to make it Windows NT compatible;
- Utilized Windows Hooks and DLL Injection techniques to
retrieve additional information from controls;
- Added support for the following parameters: Control ID,
control status (enabled, visible, Unicode), HMODULE, WndProc, HMENU, HICON,
HCURSOR, HBRUSH, extra window data, process ID, process priority, process
creation and modules times, process memory and handle count stats, process
privileges, thread ID, thread priority, thread creation and modules times,
base priority, image file path, module file path, HINSTANCE, shut-down
parameters, shut-down flags, parent window class, and more;
- Improved Controls
Locator and added new locator options;
- Added support for new window classes;
- Added additional class style: CS_IME;
- Added new and revised existing control styles;
- Added support for extended control styles;
- Added support for additional control-specific
information;
- Added user controls for the Readout
display options;
- Added ability to auto-resize Readout Pane;
- Added toolbar for better navigation;
- Added and improved visual interface;
- Added better error reporting;
- Added Capture Shot
option;
- Added new feature "Captured
Shots dialog window" with its own navigation;
- Added in-program user feedback support;
- Added in-program user registration;
- Added in-program help documentation.
Version 3.0.2:
- Added ability to recognize layered transparent windows
(with WS_EX_LAYERED, WS_EX_TRANSPARENT) and windows with WS_EX_COMPOSITED
style.
Version 3.1:
- Improved internal memory management (sped up
performance);
- Added feature to highlight control using its region;
- Added feature to capture dynamic resources, such as
window properties, font metrics, icons, bitmaps, image lists and more;
- Added new button to the WinID toolbar - "Allow Capturing
Dynamic Resources";
- Added support for automatic recognition of many Microsoft
ActiveX control classes;
- Improved controls locator methods;
- Added support for window regions;
- Added option to save window region as bitmap or WMF;
- Added window and client area Device Context handles into
Readout Pane and Captured Shot data;
- Added information on type of window region into Readout
Pane and Captured Shot data;
- Improved Capture Shot feature;
- Added control's window region info into the Shot data;
- Added window region data in the General Tab of Captured
Shots window;
- Added console application data retrieval that is now
included in the General Tab of Captured Shots window;
- Added Modules Tab into the Captured Shots window, that
includes module properties and module descriptions;
- Added new feature into Module Properties window that
allows to view specific module description, contribute your own module
information, or search for module on the web;
- Added Controls Tab into the Captured Shots window,
allowing user to view dynamic resources extracted from control;
- Added option to save all Captured Shots;
- Added option to save individual dynamic resources;
- Added new Main Menu items to improve navigation;
- Added "Suggest Idea" item into the Main Menu to encourage
users to contribute to development of WinID;
- Added option to disable Capture Shot keyboard key;
- Added option to prevent WinID from Capturing Shots when
it doesn't have keyboard focus;
- Improved "Flash Control" and "Flash Parent" options in
the General Tab menu of the Captured Shots window;
- Made WinID installable on Windows NT user accounts with
limited access (i.e., Guest Account on Windows XP).
How to check your version of WinID
Click on the Main
Menu toolbar button on top of the WinID's Readout Pane. Select "About..." from the pop-up
list. This will open the window that will show information about WinID. You will
see its version on top of the About window.
System requirements to run WinID
Although WinID is designed to run on almost every
Windows Operating System, users of Windows 95/98/ME will receive a limited
version of it (due to Operating System limitations). WinID will still run on
those OS but it will have a limited functionality. You'll get the best out of
WinID's performance if run on Windows NT family of Operating Systems. It will
incorporate the latest features of the newest OS, thus the newer your computer
the more information you can retrieve with WinID. Here's some minimum and
recommended settings:
