Intro

I have to step aside from my usual development-based articles. There's no real value in this post other than to warn others about the deceptive practices of the Australian company that calls itself OpusV, with the website at: opusv.com.au

I don't want to waste too much time dealing with Glassdoor or other social media apps to post this. It's much easier for me to post it here. If other developers come across this post via a search engine, you can contact me directly for additional details.

Heads-up

I can't contractually reveal more than just the following.

A little preface: The way I conduct my consulting or development work is by providing the services first, without requiring a pre-payment. This has been my MO for years because I want to trust my clients, and I don't want to complicate my work by messing with pre-payments, escrow, etc. I'm a developer at heart, and not a financier, or a bank.

But unfortunately sometimes there are bad apples in a bunch that take advantage of my work principles.

This company, OpusV, contacted me and subcontracted to consult them on a piece of software that they were developing for Windows.

After having delivered the consulting, coding and the code-review services from my side, the company pretty much ghosted me and failed to fully pay the bill for the services provided. After multiple emails sent to the company over the course of 3 months, including emails that were addressed to their developer that I consulted, to the original person that contacted me, and to their general contact page, the bill still remains unpaid in full. I only received the first (partial) payment and an email from their accounts-payable notifying me of it.

I will not pursue this via an international collection agency because of the hassle involved. My only recourse will be this post.

Conclusion

If you are a freelancer or a developer that is contacted by this company, or if you are working or subcontracting for them, make sure to get your payment up-front. Otherwise you may end up like me, chasing them for a remuneration for your work.
